4+1 Master’s Programs Academic Resources

Wallace Library

The Madeleine Clark Wallace Library serves as the intellectual hub of the college. The library is staffed by librarians, technologists, professional staff, and student workers, and is home to the Marion B. Gebbie Archives and Special Collections, the IT help desk, writing tutors, and faculty writing associates.

The library advances Wheaton’s transformative liberal arts education by providing essential resources, innovative services, and flexible spaces that anticipate and respond to the community’s needs. The library supports the growth and education of the whole person in preparation for a lifetime of discovery and learning. The library’s instruction program reaches more than 100 classes each year, ensuring students develop critical research and technology skills. Specialized instruction in the Archives exposes students to research using primary source materials. The library’s collections contain more than 450,000 ebooks, 250,000 print books, 35,000 ejournals, 115,000 streaming videos, and 85 research databases. Access to databases and electronic resources is available anywhere on- or off-campus.

The library makes its services accessible to remote graduate students. Students can access library support materials in the learning management system, Canvas, and schedule virtual research consultations with our librarians via Zoom or email. The Library provides required course readings for remote graduate students as online ebooks when possible. Students have access to interlibrary loan services for access to additional articles, book chapters, and other materials. More information can be found on the library’s website at https://library.wheatoncollege.edu/ or by email at library@wheatoncollege.edu.

Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar handles all matters pertaining to course registration and academic records, including transcripts and letters certifying enrollment at the college. The schedule of classes, catalog and course selection process, through which students can complete their registration (as well as many forms and publications), are available online through the Office of the Registrar. Declarations of majors and minors are filed in this office by the established deadlines. Students can also find answers to many of their academic, registration, and graduation questions at the information desk in the Office of the Registrar or by contacting the office at registrar@wheatoncollege.edu.

Filene Center for Academic Advising, Support & Accessibility

Academic advising is a teaching and learning process that engages students and advisors in an ongoing relationship focused on promoting intellectual and personal development.

The Student Success Advising team is committed to providing quality holistic advising services that meet each student’s unique needs. In partnership with resources across campus, the team is committed to fostering an intellectually enriching environment that supports students’ sense of belonging, engagement, persistence and academic success.

Accessibility Services

Wheaton College is committed to helping students achieve academic and personal success, both in and out of the classroom environment. The mission of Accessibility Services is to help all students to fully access the academic, residential, and social aspects of student life at Wheaton College. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the College provides accommodations for eligible students with documented disabilities to afford equal access to educational programs and services.

Life and Career Design Institute

The Life and Career Design Institute is an integrated hub for one-on-one career coaching, professional mentorship, and career success. Staff inspire and empower students and alumni to develop a comprehensive approach to planning for and achieving success both at Wheaton and in an increasingly global world. In partnership with staff, students explore their strengths and curiosities and are connected with relevant resources and experiential opportunities. In building an institutional culture of inclusive and holistic advising, the LCDI team collaborates with and consults faculty and staff mentors to best support students.

The Life and Career Design Institute offers workshops throughout the year on such topics as self-exploration, future planning, navigating new opportunities, résumé writing, researching, interviewing, and job-search techniques and strategies. Students develop and refine career pathways and professional skills through frequent workshop attendance and use of the Institute’s resources.

Students are encouraged to work with a professional Career Navigator or a Career Peer Advisor (CPA) in the Life and Career Design Institute. Students schedule appointments in Handshake or drop in to speak with a CPA during their office hours without an appointment. Career Navigators support students throughout their experience at Wheaton and as alumni.

For Students, Career Navigators will:

  • Be a resource for career-related conversations including internships and post-graduation planning (jobs, fellowships, pursuing additional graduate school)

  • Connect students with campus resources and alumni that will help them explore career interests

  • Provide general career and program-specific career resources

In addition to advisors assigned by the college, Wheaton students may also consult with program faculty with expertise in the professions related to their programs.

Our programs and services aim to:

  • Affirm Identity

  • Build Community

  • Cultivate Leaders
