Wheaton enrolls a diverse group of students who share certain characteristics: the desire to explore knowledge in the classroom and in the world, the willingness to seek challenges and the confidence to participate in the exchange of ideas.
Moving from an undergraduate program into a 4 +1 Master’s programs is competitive and is based on both the applicant’s academic and personal qualifications. It is the college’s policy to admit students to its graduate programs without regard to gender, race, color, creed, national origin or sexual orientation. Wheaton complies with the requirements set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended, and the regulations in implementation thereof.
Wheaton students who would like to enroll in the 4+1 Master’s programs, should submit a formal admission application in the spring of their junior year (application deadlines are published on the College website).
All applications will be reviewed by the Office of Admissions in conjunction with the graduate admission committee. Decision notifications will be sent on a rolling basis to applicants.
Minimum admissions criteria will typically require at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at Wheaton College at the time of application review. Exceptions to the GPA requirement will only be made on a case-by-case basis, and will require sign-off from the Special Advisor on Graduate Studies in consultation with the faculty in charge of the related graduate program. In addition to the application and confirmation of Wheaton GPA, applicants will also be required to submit a 250-word essay explaining their interest in the program, as well as one faculty letter of recommendation. No GRE/GMAT is required for any of the programs.
Admitted students will be subject to an admissions review after their senior year as an undergraduate at Wheaton. Continuing in the program beyond the student’s senior year will be contingent upon the student continuing to meet the admission requirements upon graduation. Specifically, students must continue to meet the 3.0 GPA criterion, have received a B- or above in the two courses taken during their senior year that count towards the master’s program, and have successfully completed the undergraduate degree graduation requirements. Exceptions to the requirements would only be made on a case-by-case basis and would require sign-off from the faculty in charge of the related graduate program.
Applications for the graduate 4+1 Master’s programs are available to current Wheaton juniors in the spring of their junior year, with specific deadline dates published on the College website. The 4+1 Master’s programs application is an online-only form accessible through www.wheatoncollege.edu. There is no application fee for the 4+1 Master’s programs.
Current Wheaton students who are in the U.S on a student visa may require a new I-20 and visa to enroll in the program. Any student who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident should consult with the Wheaton Office of Global Affairs before enrolling in the 4+1 program.
As the 4+1 Master’s programs has a sequential course structure and spans both undergraduate and graduate degree enrollment, deferring enrollment after admission or entering through readmission will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
