This connection explores the history of gender and sexuality in the U.S. REL 142 /WGS 142 , Religion and Sexuality, utilizes early Christian and Jewish texts to consider notions of female purity and reproduction while SOC 235 , Families in Transition, employs a sociohistorical approach to consider the control of female sexuality. Other common themes considered from the two disciplinary perspectives are contemporary courtship practices and the campus culture regarding sexuality.
The Religion course studies the relationship between college students’ faith and their sexual practices while the Sociology courses focuses on the construction of sexual norms.
