Combining coursework with 150 hours of supervised practicum experience, the minor in Teaching Multilingual Learners provides students with the knowledge and skills to teach English to speakers of other languages. The minor focuses on preparing graduates to work in PreK through high school settings in the United States, though it is also relevant to students who are interested in teaching English overseas, working in nonprofit organizations, or exploring the field of language-related education policies. All students who complete this minor receive a TESOL certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) that will help qualify them for positions teaching English abroad or in domestic private/adult settings. Education majors who complete this minor are eligible to take a state certification exam and apply for an add-on license in English as a Second Language (ESL). The minor in Teaching Multilingual Learners consists of 20 credits.

Four credits chosen from: *Other courses may be accepted with the permission of the program coordinator. Note: Taking at least one world language courses is strongly recommended, however language courses do not count toward this minor. All courses counted for this minor must receive a letter grade (no “pass” grades will be accepted). |
