The Department of Languages and Culture offers Language Proficiency Certificates in French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish for students who wish to achieve a credential for their advanced skills and cultural compentence in a foreign language.
The Certificates recognize students who achieve high levels of language proficiency and cultural understanding through sustained study and engagement. To earn the Certificate, students must complete five courses in the target language, starting at the appropriate level, including at least one at the 300 level and must achieve a minimum grade point average of “B” (3.0) in the Language courses. A minimum of three courses must be taken at Wheaton College, while the remaining courses may be completed through approved study abroad programs or approved transfer credits from accredited institutions.
This flexible structure encourages immersive learning in cross-culture experiences - essential components for deepening language proficiency and fostering intercultural awareness.
