Major Requirements:

Twenty four credits in required core and intermediate courses:

• COMP 115 Problem Solving and Python Programming  
• COMP 118 Object-Oriented Programming  
• COMP 121 Foundations of Computing Theory  
• COMP 218 Data Structures  
• COMP 220 Computer Organization and Assembly Language  
• COMP 318 Algorithms  

Sixteen credits in Math/Data Science courses:

• MATH 101 Calculus I  
• MATH 151 Introduction to Data Science  
• MATH 221 Linear Algebra  
• MATH 251 Methods of Data Analysis  

Four credits in Systems courses chosen from:

• COMP 345 Operating Systems  
• COMP 350 Systems and Multi-Programming  
• COMP 355 Parallel and Distributed Computing  

Four credits in Theory courses chosen from:

• COMP 335 Programming Languages  
• COMP 370 Computer Security  
• COMP 375 Theory of Computation  

Electives:

Twelve additional Computer science credits at or above the 200-level with at least four credits at the 300-level.  Mathematics courses may be substituted with permission. 

• COMP 212 Web Development  
• COMP 214 Mobile Computing  
• COMP 255 Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning  
• COMP 325 Database Systems  
• COMP 365 Computer Graphics  

*any of the 300-level Systems or Theory courses listed above but not previously taken can also fulfill this requirement.

Note:

To declare a major in Computer Science, a student needs at least a C+ average grade between COMP 115 and COMP 118. The Grade/Pass/Fail option can be used to apply a “P” grade for one 100-level course under the major requirements. If a “P” grade has been applied in COMP 115 or COMP 118 prior to declaring the major, the department may look back at the original grade to ensure that the required average grade threshold has been satisfied.
