The minor in African, African American, Diaspora Studies accommodates those students who recognize the importance of Africa and the African diaspora in world history, the arts, politics, economics, and other areas of studies. The minor requires earning 20 credits. Students may choose among many courses to fulfill the minor based on their individual interest, however it is recommended that students take AFDS 103 Introduction to African, African American, Diaspora Studies and AFDS 201 Witnessing Contemporary African Society.
AFDS will accept a WCI (Wheaton Credit for Internship)-approved internship for credit towards the Major or Minor. The proposed internship must be approved by the AFDS Coordinator and students must follow the appropriate steps to register for the WCI course. SIC 336 Practicum in Social Innovation may also count towards the minor with department chair approval.
