ITAS 283 - Cultures of Globalization Postcolonial Latin America is the location of theoretical production that challenges the assumptions of western epistemologies. This class will examine what intellectuals, artists, and Latin American authors have said about Latin American culture vis-à-vis the historical consequences of colonization and world systems that place Latin America in the margins. Some of the key concepts this class will discuss are: Indigenous cultures, imperialism, nation building, neoliberalism, subaltern groups, and forms of resistance. This class focuses on some of the foundational texts for Latin American Cultural Studies and theories as well as Global South Studies.
