HIST 298 - Business History “The chief business of the American people is business,” Calvin Coolidge famously claimed on January 17, 1925. What is “business”? Is it a uniquely American pursuit? This course examines histories of trade, commerce, accounting, and capital accumulations–essential elements of “business” in Europe and the United States since at least the fifteenth century.
