HIST 111 - Ancient Rome and Early Medieval Europe Surveys the history and culture of western Europe, from the foundation of Rome (c. 753 BCE), through the “Fall” of Rome, and the first half of the Middle Ages. Topics to be covered include: the expansion of Rome, the rise of the Roman Empire, the Christianization of the empire, the Germanic migrations, the rise of Germanic kingdoms, and the beginnings of feudalism. These two millennia will be examined through varied lenses including gender, power, religion, and the arts.
