ENG 260 - American Voices in Lyric Combat Who can claim to be an “American” voice? And how? Langston Hughes or Walt Whitman? Emily Dickinson or Elizabeth Bishop? Hart Crane or Sylvia Plath? T. S. Eliot or Marianne Moore? This course will explore American poetry from several vantage points, including race, gender, class, historical circumstance, cultural imperative, linguistic patterns and the whole uncertain idea of an “American” voice.
Prerequisites ENG 101 or AP English credit
