EDUC 251 - Special Education, Pre K-12 This course surveys the history of special education in the United States, including national and state special education laws and procedures for identifying and servicing children with special needs. Current special education models and strategies for working with children with special needs in the regular classroom will be examined. Students will become familiar with state and national standards, issues around teacher effectiveness and evaluation, and introduced to components of the Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers: Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment; Teaching All Students; and Family and Community Engagement. Field observation opportunities are offered.
