ANTH 226 - Anthropology of Art This course considers art as diverse as Maori canoe prows, Warhol’ Pop, aboriginal sand drawings, gang graffiti, Tibetan tangkas, children’ finger painting and Mapplethorpe’ photographs from an anthropological perspective, asking: Why do humans make art? How and why does art affect us and those of other cultures? What are the relationships between art, artists and society? Artists are encouraged to participate.
