BIO 319 - Stem Cell Biology BIO 398 Stem Cell Biology will explore stem cells from biological, ethical, and clinical perspectives. Topics will include the roles of stem cells in tissue development, maintenance, and regeneration; techniques for stem cell creation and differentiation; stem cells as tools for research and therapies for disease; and ethical issues raised by stem cell technology. Lab will explore stem cells in tissue development and regeneration, techniques for differentiating and maintaining stem cell-derived tissues in culture, and will include an independent research project using human stem cell-derived tissues such as human mixed cortical neurons and human cardiac muscle cells.
Prerequisites BIO 114 and any one of the following: BIO 203 or BIO 204 or BIO 211 or BIO 213 or BIO 219 or BIO 221 or BIO 254 or BIO 255 or Permission of Instructor.

Notes Students must take lecture and lab.
