PHIL 122 - Capitalism and Economic Justice

A contemporary introduction to political economy and issues of economic justice. Our central questions will include: What is the difference between capitalism, feudalism, and socialism? Which economic system and public policies does justice require? Is the welfare state enough? Or do we need to go further and implement a universal basic income or pre-distribute productive property to everyone? Is globalization the cause of international inequality and poverty? Are machines stealing our jobs? Do markets wreak environmental destruction? Should some things not be for sale?
