ENG 350 - Postmodern Theatre & Theory In this course, we will take a deep dive into plays and performance texts that break from traditional linear narrative and challenge the status quo, instead inviting audiences and readers to become co-creators of the emotional landscapes and ideas they present. We will likewise read Postmodern theories, including those that reject the notion of objective truth, explain performativity, acknowledge the influence of technology on human interaction, and name the effects of late Capitalism on social behavior, to name a few. We will put into conversation the dovetailing forces of postmodern theatre/performance and theoretical responses to our complex world. As crucial expressions of our time that revel in the freedom of contradiction rather than attempt to synthesize, control, and make order of irreconcilable realities, these essential frameworks teach us how to disagree and get along at the same time.
