ENG 270 - Writing the Environment The poet Camille T. Dungy observes that “To separate the concerns of the human world (politics, history, commerce) from those of the many life forms with which humans share this planet strikes me as disastrous hubris and folly.” In this writing course, we’ll explore the ways authors unite human-world concerns with reflections and arguments about non-human nature, climate change, and racial justice. Students will compose, revise, and edit first-person essays and researched arguments, as well as digital remix projects. We’ll take up issues of craft, including style and grammar, along with rhetorical matters that address audience, purpose, context, and genre. Class work will include peer response workshops.
