ENG 280 - Writing in Professional Contexts

An advanced course in practical writing, with emphasis on writing as problem solving and on conciseness and clarity. Some of the coursework will include using AI agents to write and examining the implications of doing so. We will also explore the affordances provided by the expansion of writing to include images, sound, and audio. For the final project, students will be paired with Environmental Chemistry students who will act as “clients” to create a short video about an environmental contaminant of emerging concern, which might be anything from “forever chemicals” to toothpaste for a lay audience. Students need not have a background in science or in video-making to undertake this exciting project.
