ENG 246 - Modern Irish Literature This course will present students with a survey of modern Irish literature which engages with and critiques the imagined representation of Irish national and cultural identity by exploring issues of class, religion, gender, politics, history, and nationality. Reading works by writers such as W B Yeats, James Joyce, Edna O’Brien, Sean O’Casey, Eavan Boland, and Sally Rooney, we will examine the changing nature of Irish cultural identity in the twentieth century and modern Irish literature’s production, reflection, and deconstruction of the nation state.
