ENG 208 - Anglo-Saxon Literature Students in this class will learn Anglo-Saxon, the earliest form of English. We will mix the study of language with the study of literature, and by the end of the semester students will be able to translate Anglo-Saxon poetry. Readings will include famous and beloved poems such as Beowulf, The Dream of the Rood, The Wanderer and The Seafarer both in the original and in translation as well as prose texts and less well-known poems. The course is highly recommended for students who want to improve their understanding of English grammar, and it is a prerequisite for ENG 320 – Beowulf (ENG 320): Beowulf. Wes þu hal!
