AST 202 - Frontiers of Astronomy

A writing- and discussion-intensive seminar class where students work on developing and reviewing proposals. Students come up with projects that they would like to carry out using the Hubble, or the James Webb Space Telescope. They submit a proposal describing their project, following the same formatting rules as that of the actual NASA proposals. The rest of the class assumes the role of a peer-review panel. Students will present multiple proposal ideas over the course of the semester. Throughout the semester students will learn about current research topics in astronomy, identify unsolved problems, and develop and critique proposal ideas to solve those problems.
