FNMS 398 - Video Art This course will provide an introduction to understanding utilizing time-based images/videos in the context of contemporary conceptual art. We will use Adobe Premiere Pro and available cameras such as smartphones and DLSR. Students are encouraged to find ways to experiment with the moving image. We will explore basic projection/sound installation and how to circulate videos online using YouTube and Vimeo. We will cover classic methods and concepts from creative film and video production, such as point of view, shot composition, spatial and time continuity, and studio lighting. The course will compare narrative and abstract camera work and post-production. We will screen work by historically relevant contemporary video artists. We will make and explore work related to more significant social issues and discuss the power of the moving image in contemporary culture.
