PSY 398 - Community Health Promotion

Students in this class will research, design, and present their own community health promotion programs. We will begin by studying the foundations of community health promotion, grounded in psychological and public health theory and methodology. From there, students will work in small groups to select a health equity issue of interest and design a program to address this issue. This will include choosing a target population, identifying specific health inequities facing that population, and developing an innovative program that could be implemented to address community needs and promote health equity. Over the course of the semester in developing their programs, students will engage with stakeholders, including members of the target population and the public health professionals who serve them. This work will culminate in a presentation to a panel of experts who will evaluate students; proposed programs and potentially bring them back to their organizations for implementation.
