POLS 298 - Intro to Criminal Law This class broadly explores the criminal law process from criminal investigations through sentencing, with a focus on the constitutional constraints on criminal procedure. The class will involve not only learning criminal procedure law but also evaluating its merits, and it will integrate introductory comparisons between jurisdictions to further this critical analysis. Each of the four modules – investigations, bail and pretrial detention, trial rights, and sentencing – will include some comparative element, and students will have the opportunity to research and propose their own changes to existing law.

Notes From time to time, departments design a new course to be offered either on a one-time basis or an experimental basis before deciding whether to make it a regular part of the curriculum. First offered Spring 2025.
