DES 298 - Intro to Architecture Studio This course teaches principles and methods for considering human experiences in built environments and how form and materials affect experiences. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are taught as students assess, measure, make and plan prototypes, addressing access to and use of spaces. Students develop the ability to assess conditions, consider environmental and material properties and apply design principles to create accessible and effective prototypes and plans. Instruction includes sketching, model-making and basic digital design tools to depict and communicate ideas clearly and effectively.

Notes From time to time, departments design a new course to be offered either on a one-time basis or an experimental basis before deciding whether to make it a regular part of the curriculum. First offered Spring 2025.
