POLS 253 - Politics of Asia This course surveys politics in Asian societies through three broad sets of questions: 1.) What accounts for differences in Asian societies’ economic developmental pathways? 2.) How and why did some Asian societies adopt democratic political systems while others developed authoritarian regimes? 3.) How have protest and resistance movements shaped politics in Asian societies? Students will learn theories of comparative politics while studying cases from across the region, such as Japan, South Korea, North Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and/or India.
