DMC 298 - Journalism 1.0 The Fourth Esta This course explores the evolution of the free press in a democracy, examining its critical role in shaping societies, politics, and cultures. Students will learn how the free press works, why it is a critical component of democratic institutions, and engage with historical, sociological, political, and ethical perspectives. Additional topics include the comparison of various forms of media (print, radio, television, web, alternative press), the responsibilities of news media, and problems and challenges confronting decision makers in various journalistic fields.
