CHEM 298 - Removing Dyes from Wastewater This course investigates the effectiveness of using tea leaves for cleaning up contaminated water. Absorption spectra of prepared dye solutions before and after treatment with spent tea leaves will be measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The efficacy and adsorption capacity of each tea waste type (black, green or white tea) will then be calculated. Computational chemistry will be employed to simulate the interaction of dye molecules with major components of spent tea leaves, in order to characterize the adsorption process.
