RUSS 203 - Russian Drama

A survey of modern Russian theatre, including some opera and ballet. We begin with a brief history of Russian theatre and its traditions in directing and set/costume design. Readings include a variety of short to full-length plays by such writers as Pushkin, Gogol, Ostrovsky, Chekhov, Kharms, Gippius, Erdman, Shvarts, Aitmatov, Petrushevskaia and Nina Sadur.
