AST 180 - Rocket Science Space … the final frontier. Why should we go, how do we get there, and what should we bring? This class will give students a broad background in the challenges and opportunities of space travel for scientific, national security, or commercial purposes. Specifically, the class will focus on the physics of rocketry, orbital dynamics, spacecraft engineering, telecommunications, instrumentation, and planetary science. Students will engage in hands-on and group activities to simulate mission design and operations. Enrolling students should be comfortable with using algebra and trigonometry, and expect a fast and challenging introductory class – it is rocket science, after all.
