EDUC 240 - Multiple Perspectives on Literacy Through a focus on critical literacy and literate activity, EDUC 240 examines teaching and learning from a variety of perspectives. EDUC 240 encourages individuals contemplating careers in education to reflect on issues of control, ownership, choice and responsibility as they impact teachers and students, and the school communities. We will study issues of equity structures, examinations of the non-neutrality of texts, and views of learning and literacy and analysis of instructional methods. We will delve into intersectionality
and how it impacts learning, literacy development, the acquisition of language and learner participation. Through extended reading, writing, projects and class discussions- participants will explore the ways language and literacy practices shape understanding of reality in classrooms and communities.
